Geoarchaeology: An International Journal

Official Journal of the Archaeological Geology Division

Geoarchaeology is an interdisciplinary journal established in 1986 and published by Wiley-Blackwell. The journal strives to publish articles that span the suture between archaeology and the earth sciences. This suture is as broad as it is jagged, and encompasses interdisciplinary studies geared to understanding archaeological sites in their broadest sense and their natural context, with particular emphasis on site formation processes. Whereas the emphasis is on the GEO (geology, geography, geochemistry, geochronology, and geophysics), the journal encourages papers containing data and results from other disciplines, such as pedology, climatology, oceanography, and biology (faunal and botanical remains). The journal is also interested in publishing manuscripts that are of a more analytical nature relating to the examination of material objects such as ceramics, metals, flints, plasters, and cements. Potential authors should keep in mind the multidisciplinary nature of the audience and strive to relate their results to the broader geoarchaeological "good."

Readers are also encouraged to submit shorter contributions, such as methodological studies or manuscripts that present novel or interesting ideas that do not have large data sets. Such abbreviated works can generally be published more quickly since they do not require such intensive editorial review.

Geoarchaeology is supported by an editorial board of international scholars who evaluate submitted manuscripts and help select external reviewers. Manuscript submission and review is fully electronic and processed through Manuscript Central TM , a web-based program for managing documents in the peer-review process.
