Position Description: The GeoCorps intern will assist NPS staff with outreach coordination with partners and organizations interested in geologic heritage, geoconservation and geotourism. The participant will help to connect the NPS to the broader geologic community to promote geologic education, science, and stewardship. As the coordinator of this Geologic Heritage partnership, the intern will compile information and develop educational materials which demonstrate the role of the NPS, both nationally and internationally, in geologic heritage stewardship. There will be some work involving the development of information to post on the NPS Geologic Resources Division websites. This position is offered through the Geological Society of America's GeoCorps America Program in partnership with the National Park Service’s Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Program.
Materials to be produced by participant: The GeoCorps intern will establish partnerships with geologic heritage interest groups and organizations. The intern will develop and maintain a contact list individuals representing the geologic heritage groups. Additionally, the intern will compile educational materials related to geologic heritage, geoconservation and geotourism. The Geologic Heritage Outreach Coordinator will seek opportunities for the NPS to work with partners and groups to promote geologic heritage sites within and outside the NPS.
Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate student in geology or earth sciences preferred. Good speaking and written skills essential for success in this position. The applicant must also possess excellent organizational skills. Prior to starting this position a government security background clearance will be required.
Position Dates: October 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013
Position Duration: 26 weeks (~6 months)
Stipend: $7,800 ($1,300/mo.)

Housing Allowance: $3,600 ($600/mo.)
Housing Details: $600/mo. housing allowance will be provided. The participant will be responsible for finding housing in the Denver/Lakewood, Colorado area. Numerous apartments / houses are available in the vicinity of the office and there is the possibility of sharing housing with other interns in the office.
