Travel Grants

Each year the Cordilleran Section allocates funds to help defray travel costs for its students who are traveling to the Cordilleran Section Meeting to present papers. Applicants for student travel subsidies must be:

  1. first author of a paper or poster, and
  2. presenter of that paper or poster, and
  3. GSA Student Members, and
  4. Cordilleran Section members at the time of application.

Applications consist of name, mailing address (valid through July), phone number, e-mail (valid through July), GSA member number, social security number, title and co-authors (if any) of abstract. Please use our secure Travel Grant Application Form (available during Section Meeting registration period) to submit this information.

A student can only receive one travel grant per meeting. You will be notified of your application status by April, and checks will be presented at the meeting, following your talk or poster.

In 2004, 49 qualified students applied, and were granted between $220 and $710, based on distance traveled.
In 2005, 28 qualified students applied, and were granted between $300 and $880, based on distance traveled.

The Cordilleran Section does not provide student travel grants to the GSA Annual Meeting. Instead, available funds are concentrated to provide more effective support for students to go to the Section meeting.

The GSA Foundation has awarded $4,500 to each of the six GSA sections. The money, when combined with additional funds from the sections, is used to assist both undergraduate and graduate student members of GSA. Thanks, GSAF!
