GSA/ExxonMobil Bighorn Basin Field Award

More Information:

GSA is excited to offer GSA Members our Annual Field Seminar in the Bighorn Basin of north-central Wyoming, which will emphasize multi-disciplinary integrated basin analysis.

GSA aims to enhance its short course program by offering a field seminar in the Bighorn Basin of Montana and Wyoming. The Bighorn Basin Field Program seeks to energize and enhance the education of geology students and faculty by introducing them to the breadth and challenges of integrated basin and petroleum systems analysis.

This July/August, undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty will participate in this field program, with all expenses covered including hotel, airfare, and meals.

Your complete application will consist of:

  • an online resume,
  • two letters of recommendation,
  • a record of all relevant courses and grades (not needed for faculty), and
  • a cover letter indicating your background (coursework and any pursuits you have outside of academia that would relate to this program), your plans for the future (short-term and long-term) and how you feel this trip will help you accomplish these plans.

Those who meet these criteria will have the greatest chance of receiving this award:

  • Undergraduate students should have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Graduate students should have a 3.8 or greater,
  • Juniors or Seniors who have finished all their required geology coursework, and
  • Those who have (or will take this summer) taken a six week traditional geology field camp.

All applicants will be notified in late-April regarding whether or not you have received this award.
