Position Description:
This is a winter position in the Resource Management Division, Cultural Resource Management Program of White Sands National Monument. The purpose of the position is to participate in a study of the effects of climate change on cultural resources within the park, which includes cultural resource documentation and treatment services, condition assessments, monitoring, and site recording at various locations within the park. The incumbent reports directly to the Park Archaeologist. Tasks and duties include: prehistoric/historic architectural documentation and preservation treatments, condition assessments, monitoring, survey and site recording, project data management, and technical report preparation. The incumbent will also assist with identifying and recording paleontological resources, manage project data, and conduct data entry in appropriate computerized databases (ASMIS databases, GIS). The preparation and cataloguing of both cultural and natural project materials for curation, as well as organizing and managing the curation facilities are also primary tasks for this position. To accomplish these tasks, the incumbent will be familiar with collections management databases, and have experience with collections, including cataloguing and preparation of project materials, photographs, and maps. This position is offered through the Geological Society of America's GeoCorps America Program in partnership with the National Park Service’s Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Program.
