Position Description:
The successful applicant will work with the park curator to catalog, rehouse and/or label natural history specimens in the park’s museum collection. The park has been participating in an All-Taxi Biodiversity Inventory for over 15 years that to date has resulted in 931 species new to science and 7,799 species new to the park. The park collection reflects this growth in knowledge about park resources and currently includes over 200 geology specimens and 235,000 biology specimens. Unfortunately, many of these specimens are un-cataloged or poorly housed. The work completed by this intern would make park specimens searchable to researchers, improve long-term storage conditions and increase accountability for specimens. The Mosaics in Science Program is run in partnership with the National Park Service and The Geological Society of America.
