Position Description:
THIS SUMMER POSITION IS STILL SEEKING ONE PARTICIPANT. APPLY ASAP TO BE CONSIDERED. Grand Teton National Park seeks to increase the interpretive and education programs on the park’s geology and geologic resources. The GeoCorps participant will serve as a front-line park interpreter of the geologic history and geologic resources of Grand Teton National Park by researching, developing and presenting a range of original interpretive programs including: guided hikes, interpretive talks and audio-visual programs (40%). Interpretive programs will focus on the geologic stories and resources of the park. Programs may also help park visitors understand the relationships between the park’s geology and its biological communities and other natural processes. The participant will also be responsible for providing informal interpretation of park resources along park trails, overlooks, and other locations; plus staffing a park visitor center providing orientation and information on park resources to visitors (50%). Opportunities may be available to work on special projects using geologic expertise to develop web content, compile current geologic research for use in education and interpretation, and help train interpretive staff in topics related to geology and global climate change (10%). Training in interpretive skills, park resources, bear safety, and park operations are provided. This position is offered through the Geological Society of America’s GeoCorps Program in partnership with the National Park Service’s Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Program.
