Position Description:
The Astronomy Education Assistant will work as a team member of Great Basin National Park's Interpretive Division, researching, developing, and presenting Astronomy related programs and an educational project. The programs include an informal solar chat and viewing of the sun, a formal inspirational PowerPoint presentation with night sky viewing program, and astronomy related Kids Program and a formal cave tour. Up to two of these programs may be given in the same day. When not providing programs the participant will assist with telescope operation during astronomy presentations once or twice a week. The participant will also help plan and present activities for the public. Participant will also work our busy visitor center information desk for an average of 2-3 hours per day. The participant will also produce a family friendly at home Astronomy Observation Kit. Three activities and make at home tool kit instruction will be researched and written to be placed on the park's website for star gazers everywhere to use and enjoy at home. The Mosaics in Science Program is run in partnership with the National Park Service and The Geological Society of America.
