The paleontology intern will participate in both field and office research related activities. All work and activities will be documented and the associated data and photographs will be incorporated into the park's and NPS paleontological archives. Additionally, all work will be accomplished in accordance with NPS policies and guidelines. Field work in Grand Canyon involves extensive hiking, on and off trail, in extremely steep, rugged, and remote terrain with extreme weather. Temperatures below the rim of the Grand Canyon often exceed 100 °F during summer months and water is limited along many hikes, while early season areas above the rim may be below freezing with potential for late season snows.
