Position Description:
The Prairie Restoration Assistant will coordinate and oversee the propagation and maintenance of native plants for prairie restoration activities in the native plant nursery. They will coordinate with park staff and recruit volunteers to do the following actions: sowing seeds, watering, weeding and cultivating native prairie plants and expanding nursery operations located at the American Camp unit of the park. The position will also be responsible for collecting seed from native plant species for use in prairie restoration activities. They will coordinate with park staff and recruit volunteers to help with collecting, cleaning and inventorying seeds of native plant species including primarily prairie grasses and wildflowers. The Prairie Restoration Intern will have opportunities to participate in other restoration actions including exotic plant control, mapping plant distribution, and other tasks as needed. A major component of this position will be the mapping of native prairie remnants for future management. The Mosaics in Science Program is run in partnership with the National Park Service and The Geological Society of America.
