Position Description:
The GeoCorps participant will assist with work in the Division of Resource Education and the Paleontology Prep lab at Badlands National Park. Work will include assisting park paleontologists and park rangers in setting up the lab and staffing it daily; communicating with park visitors; providing informal interpretive information at the visitor center desk; providing formal interpretive programs on various subjects involving park geological and paleontological resources; providing updates and training information about the lab to incoming seasonal staff; may assist in the museum if prep skills are demonstrated. Because of the delicate nature of fossils being prepped in the lab, some experience in this area is preferred but not required. Also, a background in vertebrate or invertebrate paleontology will rate more highly than geology as a stand-alone concentration. This position will work as a member of the Resource Education team, but will have some duties expected to be accomplished independently. This position is offered through the Geological Society of America’s GeoCorps America Program in partnership with the National Park Service’s Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Program. There are 2 positions available under this description at this location during this season. To be considered for any of these positions, a candidate only needs to submit an application for this one.

If you have questions about the application and selection process, please contact GSA's GeoCorps managers.  If you have questions about any aspect of the position — description, qualifications, housing, dates — please direct them to the contact(s) listed in the project description. Remember, application materials can only be submitted online.
