Position Description:
The participant will work as part of a 3 to 4 person field crew conducting salt marsh monitoring following protocols developed by the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network (NCBN). The participant will assist with the collection of vegetation and nekton (fish) data at Fire Island National Seashore (which includes the William Floyd Estate) in New York. Various types of training will be provided, including: vegetation and fish identification, methods for determining percent cover of vegetation species, methods for estimating fish density, and use of GPS equipment. The position consists primarily of field work. Other duties will include equipment maintenance and repair, data entry, and data quality assurance/quality control. A majority of the field work will be conducted at Fire Island NS, but occasional travel to other parks may be required. The Mosaics in Science Program is run in partnership with the National Park Service and The Geological Society of America.
