Position Description:
The GeoCorp participant will prepare and present educational and interpretive programs to park visitors. The participant will develop three types of programs: an interpretive walk, an interpretive talk, and a science demonstration. These programs will be offered on a daily basis. In addition, the participant will also be conducting informal visitor contacts at the visitor center and on park trails. The participant will develop and present programs describing the compelling geologic and paleontological story of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. In addition, the participant will also be interpreting past and current climate change. Programs will explain complex scientific concepts in an engaging way for the general public to understand based on the standards set forth by the National Park Service’s Interpretive Development program. This position works alongside and as part of the park’s interpretive team. The applicant will also complete an interpretive/educational-based project. This might include developing a new site bulletin/pamphlet, creating new web pages, developing lesson plans, etc. The project will be based on park needs and the applicant's experience and strengths. This position is offered through a partnership with the National Park Service’s Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Program, and The Geological Society of America’s GeoCorps America Program.
