Position Description:
The intern’s primary responsibility will be to collect and edit video footage for an interpretative video that highlights lake monitoring in Sierra Nevada Network parks (Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Yosemite National Parks). The intern will develop a script, film, and edit video footage with guidance from the Sierra Nevada Network’s Physical Scientist and Science Communication Specialist. The intern will also have time to begin production of the video as time and their expertise permits. In order to become familiar with the topic, the intern will attend SIEN’s lake monitoring training with the crews and participate in lake sampling activities. The intern will go on several backcountry trips with SIEN crews. Their primary duty in the backcountry will be to film the resource and monitoring activities for the video. However, they will also have opportunities to assist with water and amphibian sampling and backcountry logistics. The lakes are located in remote mountain areas and require backpacking with heavy packs for up to 8 days at a time and often off-trail. The work involves large amounts of time outside under a variety of conditions, including high elevations (over 10,000 feet) and extreme heat and cold. It will also involve extensive periods of time sitting at a desk editing video content.
