Leadership Development:

Presenting Project Results:

Physical/Natural Environment:
The Ely District encompasses 12 million acres in eastern Nevada. Much of the District is representative of the Great Basin with large expanses of rolling sagebrush and grasses. Pinyon and juniper forests gradually give way to aspen and fir stands at the higher elevations.

Work Environment:
Approximately 60-80% of the work will be outdoor field work and the remainder will be indoor office work.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have degree in botany, range science, natural resource management, biology, conservation biology, environmental science, or a related field. Ideally, the applicant should have strong writing, ArcGIS, and MS Excel/Word skills. The intern should also have experience with GPS units or the capability to learn how to use them. A familiarity with Great Basin flora and experience with a taxonomic key to identify flora to species are essential to the position. The successful applicant must be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision after the initial training period. The applicant must be able to maneuver and operate in a mixture of office and field work, which can include long periods of standing or walking on rough, uneven ground; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching to observe occurrences or place and retrieve equipment or devices; lifting and moving moderately heavy items (e.g., computer equipment, rebar, field equipment). Applicant must be physically fit, able to stand for long periods of time and lift boxes that weigh up to 40 pounds. A government vehicle can be used for travel as they are available. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Prior to starting this position a government security background clearance will be required.

Housing Details:
The most likely housing that would be available would be a room for rent in Ely or McGill. There are 2 RV parks within 2.5 miles of the office. Personal vehicle is recommended because of the Ely District office's isolated location and lack of public transportation.
