Position Description:
The position will provide assistance in the consolidation of records and documentation associated with the GSENM science program since its inception concurrent with the designation of the Monument in 1996. In the early years of the Monument (1996-2004), ca. $1 million/yr federal appropriations were spent on research projects in various fields related to natural and cultural resources including geology, paleontology, archaeology, human history, recreation, economics, ecology, botany, zoology, soils, hydrology and others. In more recent years federal appropriations have dwindled but research interest remains high (we currently have ca. 50 active research projects). Documentation of this research needs to be properly organized and catalogued to enable easier access for potential researchers, Monument staff, other agency personnel and the general public. Under the direction of the Science Program Administrator, the successful candidate will consolidate and organize all records pertaining to past and present internal and external research projects on the Monument, including proposals, assistance agreements, interim and final reports, data sets, presentations, published papers and related materials. All records will be catalogued in an electronically searchable and accessible database/archive to be constructed. The archive is to be web-accessible: a web interface will be constructed to provide access to archived materials. Both the archive and the web interface must meet federal data standards.

Goals, outcomes, and deliverables:
The project will provide the successful candidate with experience in public land management: in planning, managing and documenting associated scientific research, both within the agency and with external partners, and in constructing databases and web interfaces for tracking research projects, managing data and disseminating research results.

Agency involvement (project oversight, mentoring, team building, etc.):
The successful candidate will work directly with GSENM professional staff, outside researchers (from academia, other agencies and/or NGOs) and volunteers under the oversight of the GSENM Science Program Administrator.

Professional development & learning opportunities: (trainings, certifications, networking, etc.):
There will be substantive involvement of BLM professionals that will work daily side by side with recipient to provide project orientation and hands-on training. BLM staff and recipient will meet regularly (at least weekly) to discuss progress and track project outcomes and review any training needs.
