Position Description:
Death Valley National Park has over 1200 native plant species with over 145 rare species of management concern, and over 100 exotic and non-native species. The botany program strives to control and/or eradicate those exotic and non-native plant species that have compromised natural riparian ecosystems at desert spring locations. The removal of exotics promotes recruitment and reestablishment of native plant species, improves wildlife habitat, and restores the natural hydrologic functions of wetland systems. Many of the park’s rare plant species also grow near and along stream brooks and in wetland areas. The biological science technician will have diverse responsibilities that include but are not limited to: exotic plant surveys, monitoring, and control; rare plant surveys and mapping; native plant seed collection and processing; herbarium specimen processing; burned area and riparian area restoration; air quality monitoring; and general assistance with Resources Management operations.
