Public Land Name: Coronado National Memorial Position Title: Speleology Assistant Agency: NPS Position Type: GeoCorps Position ID Number: 2015606 Location: Hereford, AZ Accepting Applications? # of current Applicants: 0 Position Description: The selected applicant will work in the division of Resource Management and will focus on various natural and cultural resource inventory, monitoring, restoration, and research projects. Work will occur as an individual and in a team setting; field and office based; and conducted primarily at Coronado NMem or Chiricahua NM, but will also include participating in projects at Ft. Bowie NHS. The intern will be assigned 1-2 principle projects based on the intern’s interest and experience, but will also assist with other resource management projects and routine activities as necessary. Projects could include: cave management, wildlife monitoring, non-native plant mitigation, native plant/habitat restoration, GIS and data management, imagery analysis, air quality monitoring, collections management, archeology, border impacts assessment and mitigation, wilderness, landscape photography, analyzing/summarizing past research, archiving resource management publications, reports, and other written documents, and burned area recovery. Coronado National Memorial is co-managed with two other NPS units: Chiricahua National Monument and Fort Bowie National Historic Site. As secondary projects, the candidate will be responsible for enhancing education and outreach materials related to these parks. Finally, the candidate may be asked to collaborate on projects with regional cave managers located at Kartchner Caverns, Colossal Cave, Coronado National Forest, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, and Saguaro National Park. These projects include building regional datasets for cave ecology and climatology monitoring data, endangered lesser-long nosed bat population monitoring, and developing White Nose Syndrome monitoring and education programs. This position is offered through the Geological Society of America's GeoCorps America Program in partnership with the National Park Service’s Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Program.
