Position Description:
The participant will work as a member of Rock Creek Park Interpretive Division, researching, developing, and presenting the a Geology hike (45 min) and a Habitat Walk: (60-90 min )(1.3km). Both of these programs will be used by new interns or staff as starter programs. The candidate will also develop geology programming/activities to be used in children’s programs. Ages will vary. These activities will either be stand alone programs or integrated in to our day long Jr. Ranger Camps. The candidate will update and create webpages and Facebook posts on geology. Participant will also work our nature center information desk, rove the park and participate in Ranger on the Road programming (informal interpretive stops). Upon successful completion of the GIP internship, the participant is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award. This position is offered through the National Park Service's Geoscientists-in-the-Parks Internship Program in partnership with Environmental Stewards and The Geological Society of America.
