About the cover:
Elephant Rock, an evocatively shaped sea stack ~1 km off the west coast of the Taitao Peninsula, Chile (visible in background), is made up entirely of the Taitao Ophiolite, an obducted sliver of Nazca Plate oceanic crust. This portion of the Nazca Plate crust formed at the Tres Montes segment of the Chile Ridge spreading center prior to its subduction beneath South America. Photo by R.M. Russo.
