East-directed photograph of smooth conical summit region of the Sanctuary of Zeus, Mount Lykaion, Arcadia, Greece. At the very top is the only extant Late Bronze Age mountaintop ash altar. The summit “cone” is a thrust klippe, composed of Jurassic/Cretaceous strata faulted atop Paleocene strata. In the foreground is an abandoned shepherd’s hut and threshing circle.
