GSA invites members, Divisions, Sections & Associated Societies to help celebrate its 125 Anniversary in 2013 with a yearlong series of events. Please send your ideas and suggestions to centered on the theme: Our Science, Societal Impact, and Unique Thought Processes. The celebration will focus on how far the Society has come in advancing geoscience and its impact on society over the past 50 years — and what predictions we have for the future.

GSA-ExxonMobil Field Awards
Applications are now being accepted for the GSA-ExxonMobil Field Awards. You may receive a $2,000 scholarship toward your field camp, a $10,000 award to help operate your field camp, or a one-week all-expenses–paid field seminar in the Bighorn Basin of north-central Wyoming.

First International EarthCache Event
2 Sept. 2012
This event will bring EarthCachers from across the nation and around the world together just north of Portland, Maine, USA, to participate in seminars and activities about this exciting earth-science outreach program. It is expected that more than 500 people will attend. Registration opens 15 Feb.

Mentors are needed at this year's Section Meetings for both the Roy J. Shlemon Mentor Program in Applied Geology and the John Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrogeology Program.

GSA Participates in Climate Science Day on Capitol Hill
GSA joined a dozen scientific societies on 1 Feb. for Climate Science Day on Capitol Hill. GSA Executive Director Jack Hess and GSA Director for Geoscience Policy Kasey White were part of a contingent of scientists visiting Members of Congress and their staff to discuss climate science. Interdisciplinary teams that included geoscientists, statisticians, atmospheric scientists, and crop and soil scientists held more than 100 meetings on Capitol Hill. A related Climate Science Day briefing by Columbia University's Earth Institute attracted a standing-room only crowd.
