New Graduate Student Research Fund Policy Announced

“Pound for pound, I doubt any group has a greater impact on the course of geological research
than GSA’s Committee on Research Grants.”

—Bruce Simonson, Past Chair, Committee on Research Grants

Since its founding in 1980, the GSA Foundation has worked
closely with many donors to establish named funds
supporting a wide range of GSA priorities and programs,
including graduate student research. In 2015, named grad-
uate student research funds provided US$121,603 to promising
graduate student researchers. Thousands of GSA members have
benefited from the GSA research grants program.

As the cost of research rises for students and the number of
applications for grants increases, the Foundation in turn needs to
increase funding levels for new named funds.
